Orientation of our research and development

Every Azbil Corporation's business section has its own research and development department which consists of two sections: a development section that mainly specializes in the section's basic business, and a corporate section aiming at expansion of the business field, which develops technologies shared by all azbil Group companies, as well as original technologies. The corporate R&D sections do not only develop technologies that can be directly applied to Azbil Corporation's Building Automation (BA), Advanced Automation (AA), and Life Automation (LA) businesses, but also strategically advance our original technologies and do basic research for the purpose of creating new business opportunities and new products which are expected to play a leading role in next-generation automation.

Micro system technologies

Azbil Corporation has always been a leader in the industry, with its µF (Micro Flow), sapphire MEMS, and other micro-device technologies, which have application in instruments such as vacuum gauges. We encourage new technological development to meet the increasing need for product miniaturization and refinement, while developing other technologies to improve corrosion resistance, overpressure characteristics, repeatability, etc., which are imperative in industrial fields.

Measurement and control technologies

Among the various control technologies, we focus especially on developing sensor technology for the measurement of fluid pressure. In response to market demand for safety and reliability, we are reinforcing our efforts to research and develop semiconductor sensors that can measure simultaneously multiple items like differential pressure, static pressure, and temperature, in addition to strengthening conventional design analysis technologies and developing new manufacturing process technologies.


Measurement processing technologies (prediction and visualization technologies)

We are enhancing our proprietary Datamation technology (Data + Automation, a phrase coined by Azbil Corporation), which can take the place of a human being or expand human capabilities by means of data analysis and intelligent information processing. Our work to develop new technology includes an indoor environment control system that can manage both energy conservation and comfort while responding to changes in the outside environment. To create human-centered comfortable environments, in addition to drawing upon our know-how and wealth of data acquired by long experience, we are approaching development from new points of view, such as analysis of airflow that is simultaneously affected by air volume and pressure distribution.

Next-generation automation system technologies

Azbil Corporation is researching next-generation automation systems based on its already existing high-reliability technologies and wireless technologies coupled with the latest advances in networking and open systems. Guided by our human-centered philosophy, we continuously develop new solution technologies that make cooperation between humans and systems possible.

Microfabrication technologies

Azbil Corporation develops precision joining technologies and microfabrication technologies for difficult-to-cut materials like sapphire used for advanced sensors and stainless-steel or brittle materials like siliconized glass. We also continuously focus on development of the technologies we have cultivated, including sensor miniaturization and microfabrication techniques like etching processing by which the sensor pressure resistance is improved without impaired sensitivity (output).
