Held annually, these conferences bring together experts from the UNGC headquarters and representatives of its local networks in each country. On this occasion, Ms. Sanda Ojiambo (Assistant Secretary-General and CEO of the UNGC) visited Japan to exchange views with the representatives of participating companies, including Azbil. These companies are implementing the Ten Principles of the UNGC in four areas and incorporating the Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs) into corporate management. On account of its ambitious activities and initiatives, Azbil is a leading member, guiding the private sector toward achieving the SDGs.

The conference was divided into two parts: one on climate action and other on gender equality, two of the five action areas of the Forward Faster* initiative announced by the UNGC in September 2023. The 12 participating companies provided updates on the progress they have made in tackling these action areas, and also offered their candid opinions on the current status of the UNGC. This was followed by discussions, involving Ms. Ojiambo and the attending CEOs, regarding future aspirations and challenges. Azbil participated in the climate action forum, where Director, Representative Corporate Executive President and Group CEO Kiyohiro Yamamoto making the following points and a proposal:

  • To realize a sustainable society, Azbil is actively working to achieve the Group’s stated SDGs by reducing the environmental impact of its own business activities as well as contributing, through its core business, to reducing CO2 emissions at customers’ sites.
  • To ensure the faster resolution of issues related to climate change, a system is needed that will enable many companies to join together in a global technological collaborative effort.

The conference participants gained fresh perspectives and insights through dialogue, and they expressed their support for the Forward Faster initiative, seeking to make further progress toward achieving the SDGs.

Guided by the philosophy of “human-centered automation,” the azbil Group will continue to pursue initiatives which aim to make contributions that lead “in series” to a sustainable society and to ensure its own sustainable growth.
