1. Establishment of a standard supply system for liquid flowmeter development and quality control
Nobuyuki Sugiyama, Toru Yamaguchi
Azbil Corporation manufactures and sells liquid flowmeters, including electromagnetic and thermal models. This article introduces our calibration facility, which is indispensable for the development and production of these products, and describes its features and capabilities for
evaluating the performance of the products. In addition, we explain how our utilization of the Japan Calibration Service System (JCSS) helps us to maintain a high level of technology and product traceability.
2. Development of a high-precision vacuum standard by means of the expansion method
Toshiyuki Kataoka
In order to ensure the reliability and traceability of the Sapphire Diaphragm Gauge (model SPG), manufactured and sold by Azbil, we introduced a vacuum generation system that is based on the expansion method as our vacuum standard. We investigated the factors that cause measurement uncertainty and reduced them. Then, the accuracy of our vacuum generation system was verified by comparing our measurement values with those of the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST). The results confirmed that the system had sufficient capabilities. On that basis, we were registered as a calibration service provider of JCSS (Japan Calibration
Service System) in the vacuum gauge category, securing the traceability, etc., of the SPG Sapphire Diaphragm Gauge.
3. Establishment of a standard supply system for large gas flow rate to meet the requirements of markets
Koki Furuya
Throughout the world, flow measurement is important for energy management and energy trading, but Japan has lagged in recognizing the importance of gas flow traceability as compared with the traceability of other physical quantities. One causal factor, among others, was that the range of services undertaken by the registered service provider, the Japan Calibration Service System (JCSS), was limited. The azbil Group, too, had a need to enhance the standard supply system for large flow rates. Against this background, the Azbil Kimmon Calibration Service Center has expanded its calibration range capabilities since becoming a JCSS registered service provider for gas flowmeters in 2003. Currently, it pro-vides JCSS calibration in a calibration range that cannot be supplied by the National Measurement Standards. This paper
describes how that is done.
4. A combustion safety solution compliant with the revised JIS B 8415
Tomoya Nakata, Daisuke Okumura
The JIS B 8415 safety standard, “General safety code for industrial combustion furnaces,” was revised in 2020. The safe-ty functions of industrial combustion furnaces must now constitute the protective system type of safety instrumented system. However, it is not easy to bring industrial furnaces into compliance with the revised JIS standard, and this has be-come a major issue for industrial furnace manufacturers.
In response, Azbil now provides a method of complying with the revised JIS in the form of a combustion safety solution consisting of products such as a burner controller, flame sensor, and automatic shut-off valve.
5. Creating a compact and environmentally friendly pressure regulator with filter
Masahiro Komatsu
The user-friendly model KZ03 pressure regulator has enjoyed wide use and continuing sales over an extended period. Its sister model, the RA1B pressure regulator, is designed for high reliability, extra long-term operation, and enhanced stability of pressure control through the improvement of mechanisms such as the guide O-ring and suction tube. With reduced air consumption and miniaturization to about 70 % of the conventional size, it is also.
6. Creation of a platform enabling the use of the latest information technology in embedded devices
Yoshiaki Komoriya, Sota Nakabayashi, Isao Yamada
In recent years, in order to realize further comfort and energy savings from building air conditioning systems, the need for artificial intelligence and other advanced information technology has become apparent. However, a new control ap-plication for the embedded devices
incorporated into a building system usually must be created using the already-implemented control application language, making it difficult to utilize the latest information technology. To solve this problem we created a platform that allows control applications written with general-purpose programming languages and libraries to be added to embedded devices. Existing embedded devices can now take advantage of the latest information technology without the need to add a PC to the system.
7. An all-in-one HART modem with diagnostic, power-supply, and multiprotocol connective functions
The digital transformation (DX) of process automation plants using Highway Addressable Remote Transducer (HART) communication is underway. In this process, communication problems are sometimes encountered, requiring analysis and response using a variety of equipment. We have now developed the HART/SFN/DE-compatible model AZ-1SHM smart HART modem, which can check the operation of
HART-enabled devices in the field and analyze HART communication problems without using various external analytical equipment.
