Method of Estimating CO2 Reduction by a BAS and automated control in buildings

We estimated, on the basis of the following, the CO2 reduction for new and old buildings resulting from the introduction of a BAS and automatic control system.

  1. We estimated the reduced amount of CO2 emissions in 2022 resulting from Azbil Corporation products that were sold from 2012 to 2021.
  2. We also estimated the amount of CO2 reduction if no Azbil Corporation products or solutions were used at our customers’ sites.
  3. We used our system database to estimate the total floor area of sites and to categorize the use of the space.
  4. We used the energy consumption data (in MJ/m²/year) for each building usage type from the “Data-base for Energy Consumption of Commercial Building (DECC)” maintained by the Japan Sustainable Building Consortium (JSBC).
We converted the above energy consumption units into (kg-CO2/m²/year) using CO2 emission factors for electricity and heat (fuel).
In addition, we used fuel-electricity ratios of 6:4, 7:3, and 8:2 for hospitals and medical facilities, hotels, and others, respectively, based on data from the Energy Conservation Center, Japan.
  5. We used the calorific value equivalents for electricity consumption and CO2 emission factors for heat that are specified by Japan’s energy conservation legislation. For energy weighting of buildings by area, and for CO2 emission factors for electricity, we used adjusted factors for electricity utilities that are released by the Ministry of Environment every year.
  6. We used energy consumption reduction rates from research entitled “Issuing Subsidies on Project Expense for Introduction of Highly Efficient Energy Systems into Dwelling/Building (Project on BEMS Introduction Support)” for 2006 to 2008.
  7. Estimation of our CO2 emission reduction in overseas markets uses figures for energy intensity that were set in consideration of the total floor space estimated from past installations, energy data for each country provided by the International Energy Agency, GDP, etc.
