Environmental Assessments

The Group has been using environmental design guideline for developing environment-conscious products and upgrading the performance features of its existing products since 1997. Products are assessed for their environmental impact in eight categories (Energy Conservation, Resource Conservation, Environmental Friendliness, Extended Service Life, Reusability/Recyclability, Ease of Disposal, Packaging Materials, and Information Provision) in comparison with existing products in a four-stage process.

Our new products undergo a life-cycle assessment and an environmental design assessment to promote designs for the environment (DfE) that consider the entire life cycle. We conduct a DfE review appropriate for the stage of development and set environmental design targets measured by LC-CO2*1 for each product.

The overall result of environmentally conscious design in 2022 was 29.0% in the comprehensive evaluation of environmental design*2.

*1 CO2 emissions over the entire life cycle.
*2 A summation of the evaluation points for all products that received an environmental design assessment in FY2022.
