Environmentally Friendly Product Development

Based on the environmental design guidelines formulated in 1997, in new product development and lineup expansion we actively promote the development of environmentally friendly products and services throughout their life cycles. Constructing and maintaining a management framework for chemical substances used in products is essential to regulatory compliance. We will continue to strengthen and maintain our initiatives in green procurement and the management of chemical substances used in products.

Flow of Environmentally Friendly Product Development

Environmentally Friendly Product Development Flow

We have promoted Design for the Environment, which covers the entire life cycle of products and services, from the initial stages ofdevelopment, planning, and design to materials procurement, production, logistics, sale, use, and disposal.

At the product development stage for all new products, we conduct environmental design assessments*1 in eight environment categories, and carry out life-cycle assessments to gain a comprehensive evaluation of the entire life cycle of the product. When an evaluation meets the in-house standards, the product obtains the azbil Group Environmental Label,*2 as an environmentally friendly product. Products receiving particularly high evaluations are presented with the azbil Group Environmentally Conscious Design Award.

*1. A relative assessment in which a new product is compared with previous similar products on a four-point scale based on the degree of improvement across eight environmental categories.
*2. A Type II environmental label (self-declared)
