Participation in External Organizations
We actively participate in industry groups and initiatives aligned with the azbil Group’s thinking and direction to promote carbon neutrality. When reviewing participation in external organizations, we regularly examine whether there is a significant contradiction with our thinking and direction, and if there is a large deviation, we consider withdrawing. These efforts are examined from the viewpoint of corporate planning, environment promotion, and sustainability promotion, and are deliberated and decided in the Management Meeting when a judgment is required.
We report on our participation in industry associations, initiatives, and other external organizations.
Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association (JEITA)
Azbil Corporation is a member of the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association (JEITA), one of the four electrical and electronic organizations.
The purpose of the environmental subcommittee’s activities is to contribute to the realization of a carbon-free society on a global scale. This is achieved by promoting the creation of energy-saving products, devices, and IT solutions through innovative technology development to fundamentally overcome energy and global warming issues. Additionally, the subcommittee aims to promote initiatives that strengthen chemical substance management, reduce waste emissions, and encourage recycling. These efforts also support the development of global business through international standardization activities, ultimately reducing environmental impact risks.
This environmental subcommittee and the environmental promotion committee provide information to government ministries and agencies concerning environmental issues as representatives of the electrical and electronics industry. Through the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association (JEITA), Azbil obtains information on laws, customer requirements, and societal expectations related to the environment, while also providing its own relevant information to JEITA. Within the subcommittees and committees, we engage in discussions with other JEITA members on related issues such as water, climate change, environmental pollution, waste reduction, and the promotion of recycling. JEITA’s decisions and information are applied to Azbil’s environmental strategy.
Japan Climate Leaders’ Partnership (JCLP)
Azbil Corporation understands and endorses the principles, consensus, and recommendations of the Japan Climate Leaders’ Partnership (JCLP), and participates as a supporting member.
JCLP asks its members to commit to “endorsing the Paris Agreement and promoting the shift to decarbonized businesses,” “actively participating in initiatives such as Net Zero by 2050, RE100, EP100, and EV100,” “working with suppliers and customers to decarbonize the entire value chain,” and “as a JCLP member, agreeing to policy involvement and collaboration in decarbonization businesses.”
Our participation in JCLP is approved by the aG director in charge of environmental protection innovation, and information is shared with our chief risk officer (CRO), as well as being reported in management meetings.
Various policy recommendations have also been made through JCLP. As a supporting member, Azbil supports these policy recommendations and actively participates in related meetings, seminars, and other events.
Azbil recognizes that participating in JCLP facilitates dialogue with policymakers.
In 2019, the JCLP issued its “Position Statement on Japan’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions” to the Japanese government, and in 2020, it released a recommendation advocating for a target of 50% renewable energy by 2030. Since then, the Japanese government has declared its goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, showing that JCLP has a certain influence on climate-related laws and regulations, and our company is actively playing a part in these efforts.
Japan Climate Initiative (JCI)
Azbil Corporation participates in the Japan Climate Initiative (JCI) and supports it in “Joining the front line of the global push for decarbonization from Japan.” The azbil Group actively promotes initiatives to combat climate change.
JCI is a network committed to strengthening communication and exchange of strategies and solutions among all actors that are implementing climate actions in Japan.
(JCI web sit : https://japanclimate.org/english/)
JCI encourages the Japanese government, industry groups, and companies to proactively reduce CO2 toward the realization of a carbon-neutral society as required by the Paris Agreement, and encourages participating companies themselves to take active steps toward reducing carbon emissions.
Regarding our participation in JCI, we share information with our chief risk officer (CRO) with the approval of the aG director in charge of environmental protection innovation, and also report to the Management Meeting.
Since various policy proposals have been made through JCI, the azbil Group engages in dialog with policy makers through its participation in the initiative.
Challenge Zero (Japan Business Federation)
Azbil Corporation announced its participation in the Japan Business Federation (Keidanren) Challenge Zero proposal aimed at promoting innovation that will contribute to achieve a decarbonized society.
Visit Challenge Zero website for two examples of our efforts, our virtual power plant (VPP) business, which integrates and controls various energy resources using our automatic demand response system, and our effort to reduce global CO2 emissions through the development and spread of our RENKEI control technology.
